When it comes to training intensity, there are two types of intensity we can look into. Intensity of load (a.k.a. your rep range) and intensity of effort (how close you train to failure). When it comes to intensity of load, research clearly shows muscle growth occurs with a wide spectrum of rep ranges, as long as you train close to failure and match training volume [1]. So muscle growth is not limited to a narrow rep range like 8-12.

A cool example is a 2015 study. In this study, training with sets of 25-35 reps to failure resulted in similar muscle growth as training with 8-12 reps to failure [3]. Now, even though you can gain muscle with both high and low-reps, I generally still recommend training with a moderate rep range (of ~5-15 reps) most of the time since this simply is more practical. Sets of 15+ reps or low-rep sets that are taken close to failure can be quite fatiguing/stressful on the joints.

In regards to how close to failure you should actually train, keeping 1-3 reps in reserve at the end of your set is generally a good aim [4]. I remember the first time I walked into the gym. My heart was pounding, I felt sick to my stomach, I felt out of place, and I had no clue what the heck I was doing. I knew I wanted change, but I didn’t even know what it was going to take or what it was even going to look like.▫️

I remember the first kilometre I ran. I had no idea how fast to start, no idea what shoes to wear, no idea how to pace myself once I got going, and even really had no idea how to breathe.▫️

I remember the first time I toed the line for my first race. Looking around at all the taller, slim runners made me question what I had gotten myself into. I knew I wasn’t like the other runners, and I knew I was in for a wild ride. I was anxious and nervous and I had no idea what I was doing.▫️

The nerves of doing something you’ve never done will never go away. But you learn how to deal with them and how to gain the courage to just try!▫️

I often think about what my life would be like today if I had never taken that first step into the gym. I don’t honestly know how I got the courage to do it, but I’m so proud that I did.▫️

If you need a sign to just SHOW UP, this can be it. Your first time at the gym might feel awful. The first time meal prepping might be overwhelming. Your first run might burn, but you have to continue to try and try again. Just show up and join us Wednesday night at 6:30 for the @lululemon run club and see what you’ve got! ▫️

Welcome to Monday: a new week, a new adventure, a new dawning.
Yah!!!!!

For me, it’s week 3 of am 8 week journey. In the first two weeks I established the ‘infrastructure’ for my ‘new’ journey back to my pre-cancer fitness, strength and endurance.
In the past I have worked hard to achieve the necessary level of fitness to achieve marathon and half marathon goals.
I now realise I have to be much more committed than achieving minimum fitness, I must commit to full-body and full-mind fitness.
It’s no longer acceptable to me to be fit enough to compete, I now wish to be fit. Truly fit. Every muscle, every cell, every tendon, every ligament, every cell.
My new goal, starting today on this new week, is to make myself fit. The next six weeks are dedicated to putting everything in place that I will need for me to achieve this goal.
A new week, a new goal, I’m excited. so to celebrate, I found this place for a morning run. My motto: Start running, never stop.

Som ni kanske har märkt så har jag jobbat i princip varje dag i augusti och kommer även göra i september, därför är jag mindre aktiv här samt för att jag orkar inte med sociala medier på samma sätt längre och jag har även börjat fundera på hur jag ska göra med mitt PT företag... jag tror att jag kanske inte är skapt för att ha eget samt för att det går väldigt trögt. Det är skit svårt att driva eget, speciellt inom PT branschen då det finns SÅ många och jag upplever att det är extra svårt när du är inriktad på löpning och kroppsviktsträning/cirkelstyrka (alltså ej lufta tungt och bygga mycket muskler) som jag är. Det är väldigt mycket oro jag har i kroppen över företaget, att allting ska bli rätt med bokföring, datum att hålla redan på med skatteverket, betala in skatt som är mer än vad jag sålt för (får såklart tillbaks sen men drygt nu när man behöver pengar), betala in 1600kr varje månad för PT utbildningen som ändå inte lönade sig (dock bara 2 ggr kvar nu, thank god!) och mycket mer. Jag hade gärna jobbat som anställd PT på ett gym men vem vill ha en som bara sysslar med löpning och lättare styrketräning bara för välmåendets skull? Det känns inte som om att det är jätte efterfrågat direkt? Eller har jag fel? Nåväl, nu ska jag rocka denna 11h + dag på mitt fantastiska jobb, gör det ni också! 👊🏻

Ideally you should be training your biceps using progressive overload just like any other muscle group. Advice to keep weight off on vaca: walk everywhere, take the stairs not the elevator, pack comfy clothes, and DON’T STRESS!

I love that saying that goes something like - better to have tried than to never have tried at all. It just made me think of all the times Iv quit rather than to hv shown patience. I think that’s so important for us to remember Becuz today I was starting to get so depressed over how much weight Iv gained and worrying if I’ll be able to lose it and reach my goals. I feel so uncomfortable in my skin right now especially Becuz i am constantly bloated. I kno carbs contribute to my bloating. Pretty much anything I eat and water will cause me to bloat. It makes me feel insecure at all times. Cutting out carbs tho does not seem to be the solution tho. Neither does quitting like Iv done so many times in the past. For now I’ll jst keep admiring everyone else’s progress and keep working on my own haha. ps- sorry for the specks on the mirror...it’s glitter 😅 jk but I jst wanna thank @hollyeatright And @mil_gyms for lifting my spirits today. U guys are the best 💙

Let’s talk about the size of my waist. When I first started gaining muscle and fat on my weight gain journey, I had a 23 inch waist. Two years later I have a 25 inch waist. I mentally prepared myself for the weight gain around my waist just to find out that I actually don’t care how big my waist gets🤷🏽‍♀️ If you’re eating for a booty you WILL gain weight in other unexpected places. Unfortunately genetics take over and we cannot fully choose where muscle goes and we can not at all chose where our body wants to store or lose fat from. So I’m not going to worry about something I have no control over. Howeverrrrr if a small waist does matter to you you can train back, side booty and don’t lift heavy for abs to give the illusion of a smaller waist. I lift weights because I want to look and feel physically and mentally strong. However my body chooses to put on weight is fine with me🤗💪🏽
